AFL 2017 FIRST PRELIMINARY FINAL - ADELAIDE CROWS V GEELONG CATS; MATCH PREVIEW & TEAMS
Ben Jensen 21 September 2017

AFL FINALS 2017 FIRST PRELIMINARY FINAL: ADELAIDE CROWS V GEELONG CATS GEELONG has recalled Nakia Cockatoo and Tom Lonergan from injury, in place of the omitted junior pair James Parsons and Zach Guthrie. Minor premier Adelaide has also made two changes, both compulsary, recalling big man Andy Otten and champion Rory Sloane, losing Brodie Smith and Mitch McGovern to injury.

Cameron Guthrie however did not make it back from injury and as a result there will be no Guthries in the side, a rare event this season. Tom Stewart has been named however. Zach Guthrie, Jordan Murdoch and James Parsons are the three emergencies for the Cats, none of them ready replacements for Stewart so we assume he will play. There may have been some other players who flew to Adelaide today so we may yet see someone else come in should Stewart not be fit in time for the preliminary final clash. Grand final ticket ballot registration opened and closed today, tens of thousands of Cats fans each paying the $5 fee.

CATS OUTCLASSED BY CROWS
Ben Jensen 23 July 2017

AFL 2017 ROUND 18: ADELAIDE CROWS V GEELONG CATS GEELONG wiped the floor with Adelaide in their last encounter just seven weeks ago but Friday night the Crows had the better of the Cats in almost the exact opposite outcome. The Crows opened with a five goal to one opening term and pushed ahead again in the second quarter to lead by just under 30 points at half time. When the Cats were again out-scored in the third quarter a Crows victory was inevitable, the two sides going goal for goal for a while but the lead at 37 points for the final break. Adelaide managed to go goal-less in the final quarter, and as Harry Taylor slotted through his third, fourth and fifth goals by the fourteen minute mark it looked like an unlikely comeback was on the cards. But in the final thirteen minutes of the game there would be only one behind each scored, the final margin of 21 points definitely flattering the Cats but they did mount a credible comeback, whatever Chris Scott and his players came up with worked. Despite the loss by Sunday evening the Cats remained second on the ladder thanks largely to Richmond defeating GWS today. FULL MATCH REPORT
