Zach Tuohy kicks goal after the siren to give Geelong win over Melbourne
Ben Jensen 21 July 2018, AFL Round 18 2018, Geelong Cats v Melbourne Demons GEELONG defeated Melbourne thanks to four final quarter goals to birthday boy Tom Hawkins and an after the siren goal by Zach Tuohy. Melbourne led by 23 points at three quarter time and when Tom McDonald kicked the first goal of the final term, his fourth for the day, it looked like it might be all over. But Hawkins went on a rampage kicking goals from set shots and general play. Skipper Joel Selwood, Tim Kelly and Tuohy also kicked goals. The Demons kicked a couple themselves but it wasn’t enough to snuff out the Cats’ drive.
Gary Ablett was quiet by his own lofty standards spending a fair bit of time up forward with little inside fifties coming his way but came alive in the final term, earning praise from coach Chris Scott in the post-match press conference. Jack Henry who has made a living for himself this season as backman started and played all game as a forward and kicked his first goal (see video down below). Also see video of Tuohy’s goal, from the AFL twitter account and our own humble footage taken on an equally humble Samsung Galaxy S7. And check out one of our favourite Chris Scott GIFs yet.
Earlier in the VFL the Cats let a 22 point three quarter time lead slip, losing to Casey by 3 points, while in the VFL Women’s the Cats had a much better day leading all match beating Casey by 41 points. There was a fight after the match on the Gary Ablett Terrace (scroll to the end for some video) – disgusting scenes really we haven’t seen the likes of in a while.

Nothing like a sore loser – had a beer thrown at the back of my head after such a joyous after the siren win. Cats fans took care of a few drunk Melbourne fans – who kept picking fights and were police forced out #sad #AFLCatsDees pic.twitter.com/Fs1P2UgZTP
