Cats beat Swans by 22 points

AFL 2019 round 11 Geelong Cats v Sydney Swans, Ben Jensen GEELONG defeated Sydney by 22 points at GMHBA Stadium tonight. The crowd of 29,021 welcomed back Dan Menzel who kicked one goal and was fairly quiet, as was Gary Rohan who played his first match against his old side. Tom Hawkins top scored with four goals and fellow big forward Esava Ratugolea kicked two. At the other end Lance Franklin managed just one. Swan Will Hayward and Cat Patrick Dangerfield kicked two.

Before the first bounce ruckman Rhys Stanley withdrew with an adductor strain replaced by Zac Smith who played his first game of the season – in just over a year in fact. Smith and Ratugolea combined well, as did Darcy Fort and Ryan Abbott two weeks ago when Stanley again was a late out.

Tomorrow the VFL men and women’s sides play the Bulldogs at Whitten Oval. Next Friday night the AFL Cats play Richmond at the MCG, their last match before they have their bye round. Gary Ablett will be eligible to return from suspension and ruckman Stanley who was a late change again today should return from an adductor strain.
