Ben Jensen, 16 August 2019 SAM Menegola has been sent back to the VFL as his teammates fly to Brisbane to play the second-placed Lions side. Replacing the omitted Menegola is Irish defender Mark O’Connor while Brandan Parfitt will play his fiftieth AFL game.

The Lions have named an unchanged lineup featuring former Cats Allen Christensen and Lincoln McCarthy – the latter like Parfitt to play his fiftieth game. Other Lions milestones are Daniel McStay and Alex Witherden who will play their one hundredth and fiftieth games respectively. Elsewhere former Geelong and now GWS ruckman Dawson Simpson has announced his retirement.

Both VFL sides play Williamstown but at different venues- the man at ‘Avalon Airport Oval’ 11:40AM on Sunday, the women also on Sunday but at Bundoora kicking off at 12:30PM. The AFL emergencies are Sam Menegola, Scott Selwood, Rhys Stanley and James Parsons; it will be interesting to see who travels to Brisbane and who stays home.
