Cats smash Saints in Monday night Gabba clash

St Kilda Saints v Geelong Cats; AFL 2020 round 11 match review Wednesday 12 August 2020 Ben Jensen ON MONDAY NIGHT Geelong put in a huge second half effort to thrash St Kilda by nearly ten goals, bringing an end to the Saints’ winning streak. The match was fairly close early on with the Cats taking a narrow lead into quarter time after the Saints kicked the final two goals of the quarter, but the Saints wouldn’t kick another goal after the fifteen minute mark of the second term.

At times the game resembled ‘the Gary Rohan & Tom Hawkins Show’, especially the second quarter, the forwards finishing with four and five goals apiece, Hawkins drawing level in the Coleman Medal race. Not to be outdone Sam Menegola played one of his better games all over the ground and kicked two goals himself. Mark O’Connor, who is turning out as one of Chris Scott and the Cats’ brains trust’s better selections after a surprise selection down back two seasons ago criticised by many at the time, was again outstanding down back. O’Connor wasn’t alone down back with another more recently criticised selection choice, veteran defender Lachie Henderson, proving the naysayers wrong.
