Cats to play Magpies in first final; five Cats in AFL All-Australian squad
Geelong Cats v West Coast Eagles, AFL 2022 round 23 Ben Jensen GEELONG had a slow start but easily accounted for West Coast at GMHBA Stadium on Saturday night by 85 points to honour Patrick Dangerfield’s three hundredth game. Tyson Stengle and Tom Hawkins each helped themselves to four goals while Eagle James Cripps kicked three. Before the first bounce ruckman Jonathan Ceglar came in at the expense of Sam Menegola to play just his second match for the Cats and was one of the best afield. Former Cat Tim Kelly finally had a good game against his old side, easily the Eagles’ best.
The Cats will play Collingwood in the first qualifying final at the MCG on Saturday 3 September in a twilight fixture beginning at 4:35pm. A short time ago the AFL All-Australian squad of 44 players was announced, with five Cats making the squad: Tom Hawkins, Jeremy Cameron, Tom Stewart, Tyson Stengle and Mark Blicavs. The final 22 will be announced Wednesday night.
