MORE CATS COME HOME MORE FORMER CATS have returned home. As it was rumoured last week, 199-gamer Steve Hocking will join the club in a 'match committee role', presumably chairman of selectors. The position, made redundant when Barry Richardson left the club, is being reactivated. Hocking, like Ken Hinkley, a reliable backman, says he has only been back to the club three times in ten years, and that he was "quite nervous" about coming back. Meanwhile, 231 game veteran Adrian Fletcher, Norm Goss Memorial Medal in Williamstown's VFL Premiership this year as well as specialist coach at Collingwood, has been appointed 'forward scout'. Fletcher captained the Fremantle Dockers in 2001 before being 'retired'. He came close to being recruited by Collingwood as a player, but instead played with feeder club Williamstown and was a specialist coach at Collingwood. He featured in the top five of the VFL best and fairest and was a key to the Seagulls winning the premiership. With Garry Hocking unsuccessful in his application for a coaching role, it was believed that brother Steve would join the club. The two, while playing in the same team for eight years, have not been on speaking terms since the mid 1980s. The complete list of former Cats coming home is: Andrew Bews, Damian Bourke, Adrian Fletcher Ken Hinkley and Steve Hocking, . Add Darren Cresswell, who was at Geelong but never played a senior game, and that's six Cats coming home. It remains to be seen whether or not having that many players, from what can only be described as an underachieving era (four grand finals, no premierships) is a positive influence or not. |
