CATS PUT UNDER THE PUMP, RUN OVER
GIANTS IN SECOND HALF By Ben Jensen twitter.com/thecattery GEELONG CATS V GREATER WESTERN SYDNEY GEELONG were fairly unimpressive for at least half of the game against Greater Western Sydney today but still managed to win by 65 points. GWS led for pretty much all of the first half, the Cats not putting on much of a show. Earlier in the VFL comeback kid Dan Menzel injured his 'good' knee in his much anticipated comeback game, and the AFL side made three changes, Corey Enright (brake foot), Joel Corey (shoulder) and Motlop (shoulder) all replaced in the selected side by Jesse Stringer, Tom Gillies and Billie Smedts. Harry Taylor played up forward in place of Hawkins and performed really well, having always been such a good marker of the ball all he had to do was work on his goal kicking. In his 100th match he kicked six goals, including one after the final siren. Steve Johnson kicked five, James Podsiadly three while for the Giants there were just three multiple goalkickers in Jeremy Cameron, Dylan Shiel and Adam Treloar each with two goals. The Cats play Carlton next Friday night at Etihad Stadium. The Blues of course embarrassed themselves at AAMI Stadium tonight, losing to the Power and will want to get their season back on track. The Cats weren't much better today and likewise really need to get McCracking. James Kelly faces an almost certain spell on the sidelines after a bump on Toby Greene in the third term. Last week's debutante Jonathan Simpkin may make his way back onto the main list after Menzel's unfortunate demise for the remainder of the season and press for selection along with today's new boys Jordan Schroder and Lincoln McCarthy. Hawkins is expected, by us at least, to miss at least another week.
