AFL WEBSITE FAILURE FARCE;
REGIONAL GEELONG AND ST KILDA FANS FACE MEDIA BLACKOUT By Ben Jensen DURING a busy day of football, one in which tens of thousands of Geelong fans around the country rely on the pathetic AFL website in order to access radio coverage of their team, the Telstra Bigpond produced AFL website, AFL.com.au, has 'gone down'.
While there is other websites available for 'live scores', however none of them offer radio or any other audio coverage. Thanks to 'Totti' from Bigfooty for providing a direct link to AFL.com.au's matchday coverage, if you're reading this article you need not miss out: http://xml.afl.com.au/swf/live_stats.htm?gameID=.
The service quality has dropped off dramatically since Telstra sacked Sportal from the website's management, instead appointing a large consortium of other providers. Traffic has dropped off by over 20%, as punters simply can't login and head to other websites, both mainstream media (Fairfax, News, NineMSN, etc) and 'unofficial' websites such as The Cattery, Bigfooty, etc. But unfortunately most people, once they saw the white screen (on right) would probably give up on AFL.com.au and sadly miss what will hopefully be another big win for the Cats over the Saints at the Telstra Dome in just an hour's time. Bigpond's service status site advises as follows:
Not happy? Well, guess what, there's nothing you can do, other than patronise other websites and perhaps call your local talkback radio station tonight or during the week.
