CATS SWING THE AXE WITH EYE ON DRAFT
AND TRADE WEEK; EXTEND CONTRACTS

AFL TRADE WEEK 2014 IN THE AFTERMATH of the 'straight sets'
exit from the 2014 final series, the Cats have moved to make some list
changes, upgrading Mark Blicavs to the senior list and in his place
on the 'category B' rookie list signing up Padraig Lucey from Ireland
and the Foxtel series 'The Recruit'. Receiving contract extensions are
youngsters James Toohey and Josh Cowan, Toohey a rookie yet to play
a game while Cowan has three AFL games under his belt.
Departing Kardinia
Park are Jesse Stringer, Jordan Schroder, George Burbury and Jackson
Sheringham who all featured in AFL games this season, rookie listed
and un-capped Nick Bourke also receiving his marching orders. There
will likely be more changes on the playing department in coming days
and weeks.
Trade Week officially
starts Friday 3 October, closing Monday 13 October; shorter than in
previous seasons due to the sheer lack of activity until the last 30
seconds (we exaggerate by about 5 minutes). Geelong has admitted publicly
it is chasing disgruntled Melbourne backman James Frawley and rumoured
to be the favoured destination by troubled Dee forward Mitch Clark.
The AFL National Draft will be held on Thursday 27 November; the Cats
to have picks 13, 33 and 52.
