BENDIGO BANK CATS ON TOP IN TRU ENERGY VFL By Ben Jensen VFL ROUND 8: NORTHERN BULLANTS V GEELONG THE BENDIGO BANK CATS shot to top spot on the TRU Energy VFL ladder with their win over Carlton affiliated Northern Bullants, and Sandringham's loss to North Ballarat. Behind by nine behinds at three quarter time, the Cats blasted the Bullants away with a six goal to one final quarter. Geelong also kicked nine behinds for the term, indicating the firepower present in the Cats' forward line. Tim Callan was named best afield, the half back flanker unable to break into the AFL side but doing his best at the lower level. Josh Hunt, discarded from the AFL side for skipper Tom Harley after playing a key hand in the wins over Fremantle and Port Adelaide, shook off any disappointment and again played a leading role in a win on the road. Charlie Gardiner similarly hasn't put a foot wrong since being dropped but like most at this level will struggle to be promoted on the current form of fellow tall forwards Cameron Mooney, Nathan Ablett and even Tom Hawkins.
