CATS LOSE TO LIONS BY FOURTEEN POINTS

ALTHOUGH it was not the miracle win that many had hoped for (but did not believe we'd go near), Geelong was gallant in defeat today, going down to the Brisbane Lions by 14 points. The Cats took a ten point lead into quarter time before the Lions of old put the foot down, slamming home six goals to nil in the second quarter. The Cats fought back to outscore the Lions in the third quarter to make the margin just three goals, but couldn't get any closer than the final margin of fourteen points.
If it were not for the woeful second term, the Cats may have been able to get away with what would have been the upset of the year. But, it was just not meant to be. Impressive for the Cats were Jarad Rooke, who played a blinder on Jason Akermanis, Gary Ablett, Matthew Scarlett and Darren Milburn..
A decent crowd of just under 21,250 turned up, more people that were expected considering last week's effort against the Saints. Next Saturday afternoon Geelong travel to Perth to face the West Coast Eagles. While the Cats improved greatly on last week's performance, they will have improve yet again to have a chance against the Weagles. In Geelong's favour is the fact the Weagles have not beaten the Cats since Round 13 1999, in front of just under 20,000 people at Kardinia Park.
Midfielder Cameron Ling and defender Tom Harley are certain inclusions next week, and with Josh Hunt is also certain to retain his position in the team, the pressure is on players like Cameron Mooney, Steven Johnson, Peter Riccardi, to hold their positions in the team.
