Long live the King!

This morning the Geelong Football Club announced that the premier ruckman in the state, Steven King, has re-signed with the club for a further two years. King has previously declared that he wants to be a 'one club player', such as the likes of Garry Hocking, Paul Couch.

King said, “I am rapt with the new contract”. “The next few years at Geelong are going to be very exciting and I really want to be part of that. “It is also my ambition to be a one club player over my career and this is another big step towards that.” Alice Springs - based Geelong fanatic, Rikki said "bloody good news", "made my day", and also added that "one half of the soon to be great Blake/King combination is sewn up", while LA based 'LaLaCat' said "Steven King is what they'd call a 'franchise player' over here".

King, originally from Shepparton and later the Murray Bushrangers, has played 124 AFL matches since making his debut in 1996. Geelong recruited King as a 16 year old in the 1994 draft as compensation for Fremantle picking up one time Geelong full-back Stephen O'Reilly towards the end of 1994, but King did not come to Geelong until towards the tailend of the 1995 season.
