CATS OVERCOME DONS EMOTION FOR NINTH WIN ON THE TROT By Ben Jensen AFL ROUND 14 ESSENDON V GEELONG THE CATS put paid to any thoughts of a sentimental win for the Bombers with a fifty point win at Telstra Dome tonight. It was a mixed evening for former Cattery journo and well known Essendon fan Mark 'Heeno' Heenan, as James Hird's 250th game and Adam Ramanauskas comeback match were soured by an eventual convincing win by Geelong. The win was Geelong's ninth in a row, the twelfth of the season. GEELONG 4.3 7.9 12.14 19.19 (133) DEFEATED GOALS GEELONG: C Ling 3 P Chapman 3 C Mooney 3 B Ottens

The game was in the balance even as the Cats led by just ten points at three quarter time. Two goals from Matthew Stokes in the first five minutes put the match beyond doubt, although a brief revival courtesy of a fifty metre penalty against Jimmy Bartel gave Geelong fans a scare and Essendon fans a glimmer of hope. Cameron 'Moons' Mooney sealed the game with his third goal. He even did a Chris Tarrant impersonation and hung an impromptu 'moon' after his Essendon opponent yanked at his strides as he lunged forward to take a mark. Joel Selwood, starting on the bench but swung into the centre a couple minutes into the game, was one of Geelong's best. Cameron Mooney, although inaccurate in front of goal and probably should have kicked five or six, was dominant up forward. Paul Chapman though was Geelong's 'BOG', finishing with over thirty possessions and three goals. Former Geelong Falcons full forward Cameron Ling kicked a bag of three goals, to make twenty for the season.
On Sunday Geelong's VFL team play Frankston. Former skipper Steven King should start in the ruck while players on the AFL fringe including David Johnson and Josh Hunt try their best to impress selectors.
