The Geelong
Football Club has concluded its internal investigation in relation
to the decision by Victoria Police to arrest and charge Mathew Stokes
with possessing and trafficking an amount of cocaine on 3 February
2010.
The following
sanctions have been determined under the AFL players code of
conduct. Matters relating to the AFLs drug codes and the police
charges are the responsibility of other authorities, namely the AFL
and the legal system.
The clubs
sanctions imposed on Mathew Stokes are:

Stokes of the penalties.
These sanctions
do not speak to Mathew Stokes guilt or innocence on the charges issued
by the Victoria Police on Wednesday, and will stand regardless of
the outcome of those charges.
The penalty does
not take into account any possible action under the anti-doping code,
as the club does not have jurisdiction in this area.
Mathew Stokes
has personally retained Mark Dean SC to act on his behalf in relation
to the legal proceedings and as the matter is before the courts, the
Geelong Football Club will not be making any further comment about
this subject until such time as it is concluded.
