CATS UNTESTED, EASILY ACCOUNT FOR
LIONS AND KICK HIGHEST SCORE OF THE SEASON AFL ROUND 16 2017, BRISBANE LIONS V GEELONG CATS GEELONG easily accounted for the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba tonight, winning by 85 points setup by a ten goal second quarter. It was not much of a game to write home about, not much of a contest - though several Lions players really did have a go, none other than Dayne Zorko who should pick up a Brownlow vote. It was an avalanche of goals by modern standards, Mark Blicavs kicking three first-half goals and even Jed Bews got one. Brandan Parfitt showed why he returned to the side after just one VFL match since coming back from a hamstring injury while Joel Selwood cleared out the cobwebs. Patrick Dangerfield was solid and could have been forgiven for being a bit down having become a father during the week, but picked up nearly 40 possessions and was seen up forward often, dishing off plenty of goals and kicking four himself including the last two of the game, one after the siren. The man doesn't know how to slow down! Tom Lonergan and Mitch Duncan did all right in their 200th and 150th games respectively, Lonergan not having as much to do and Duncan was right up there in the Cats' best. Tom Hawkins led the goal kicking for the Cats with four, James Parsons along with Blicavs having three. The answer to the ruckman question appears to remain unanswered although we like Zac Smith much better, he kicked a hand goal while Rhys Stanley also kicked one from a set shot but missed other attempts and struggled to hold a mark against smaller opponents. It really rained goals at the end, a procession of almost uncontested shots at goal from near the goal square seeing Duncan and Motlop among others convert. Former Cat Josh Walker had a terrible night going out early with a nasty injury, appearing to be a calf or some other lower leg injury. In the VFL today the Cats lots to Collingwood by 26 points at home while the VFL Women's team also lost, by 8 points to the Seaford Tigerettes. Speaking of Tigers, how about Richmond? We couldn't believe it, but then again we can. This website had oodles of traffic from people Googling the 2007 flogging the Cats gave Richmond, ending up at our match report from the night. Next Saturday afternoon Geelong play Hawthorn in a home game at the MCG. They are now third on the ladder comfortably with the Tigers' display today.
