MISTAKES COST GEELONG; LEFT HOLDING UP LADDER MISTAKES ultimately cost Geelong what would have been the upset of the round at the SCG last night. Losing by six behinds, the Cats' mistakes kept the Swans in the game and lead to them overtaking the Cats in the final minutes. Of course Sydney were to blame for letting Geelong stay in front, their inaccurate kicking nearly costing them an important home win. In front of twenty five thousand, James Kelly was popularly judged best afield, with over twenty possessions and three goals. Andrew Mackie made a promising but not outstanding debut. Dasher Milburn made a fine return from injury, despite concerns before the opening bounce that he may not be fit enough to take his place in the side. Peter Riccardi did not play, Jarad Rooke earning a reprieve after being dropped earlier. It is time for the Geelong selectors to play the skilled draftees like Mackie, Tom Lonegan and Kane Tenace. Their bodies may not be developed but at least they have skills. Clearly the coaching staff at Geelong can't teach the athletes like Spriggs, McCarthy, etc, football skills - the natural footballers must get a game. Geelong is now left at the bottom of the AFL ladder, in 16th position with no wins and a percentage of just 59%. The Cats host Richmond at Telstra Dome this Saturday night.
