We came on the train from Geelong to the 'G.
Carriages chock-full of smugness and glee.

It's September and Finals. Our time of the year
When delusions and hopes of a Cat flag appear.
We'd studied the draw. Worked out who we'd play.
To ensure we'd be there on Grand Final day.

Well, first up, it's Freo. That's a given, we know
Just a step in our plans of the Premiership show.
There might be some aggro. Maybe some niggle
But when all said and done, they're a bit of a giggle.

So we're focused on next week; away to the Crows
And in Adelaide, that's tough, as everyone knows.
But we beat them down here, just a few weeks ago
And we'll have our best back, with Steve J and Varcoe.

Then on to the prelim, and a match with the Hawks
Who we've now got the wood on, say the radio talks.
So we'll make the Grand Final, but who will we play?
Will we knock off the Swans or Eagles that day?

Well, we'd totally ignored the skills of the Dockers
And last night at the 'G, put in one of our shockers.

The train back to Geelong was sullen and glum
For we'd counted our chickens before any had come.
