JOEL COREY IN UPSET CARJI GREEVES MEDAL WIN By Ben Jensen (Back in London) JOEL COREY has beaten AFL Players Association MVP Gary Ablett Junior to the Geelong best and fairest award, the Carjie Greeves Medal, denying the Norm Smith and Brownlow Medal runner up 'back to back' club awards. Corey, who like Ablett was again All Australian, polled 591 votes to best Ablett (538) and 2007 Brownlow Medallist Jimmy Bartel (522).
In other awards, Jason Davenport won his second VFL club best and fairest (but was later delisted by the club). Harry Taylor not unexpectedly won the best first year player award while Tom Harley and Cameron Ling won the best clubman and coach's award gongs. Steve Johnson was the leading goalkicker, booting 53 majors to edge out Cameron Mooney on 52. 1st place: Joel Corey, 591 votes 2nd place: Gary Ablett, 538 votes 3rd place: Jimmy Bartel, 522 votes 4th place: Cameron Ling, 443 votes 5th place: Joel Selwood, 439 votes 6th place: Cameron Mooney, 423 votes 7th place: Corey Enright, 417 votes 8th place: Andrew Mackie, 386 votes 9th place: Steve Johnson, 384 votes 10th place: Tom Harley, 334 votes
