CATS INTO VFL GRAND FINAL By Ben Jensen THE BENDIGO BANK CATS are into the Victorian Football League grand final, to be played against Melbourne affiliate Sandringham at Princes Park next Sunday. Yesterday Geelong defeated a determined Williamstown, who had the wood over the Cats in the first half but was left for dead by a determined Geelong outfit that kicked three goals to one in the final quarter to run out twenty-seven point winners. Nathan Ablett kicked another bag of four goals from centre half forward, while Kent Kingsley joined him with four to go with last week's five from full forward. Following the game Ablett said he relishes the opportunity to play at centre half forward. "I definitely find centre half-forward better, you've got a bit more space and can do a few more things as opposed to full forward you're just leading all the time, so yeah, it was good." Ablett also acknowledged he has improved markedly even since the start of the season. "I think my fitness is improving and knowing the game I think that is really probably why I am stepping up, but as I get older I expect myself to learn a bit more and have a bit more of an influence on the game."
GEELONG 4.2 8.7 14.11 17.13 (115) DEFEATED GOALS: WILLIAMSTOWN P. Rose 4, L. Picken 2, A. Williams, A. Iacobucci, T. Langlands, D. Nicholls, D. Stanley, R. Cook GOALS: WILLIAMSTOWN S. Pendlebury, A. Iacobucci, L. Picken, S. Cox, S. Greene, B. Johnson
Sandringham, who defeated Geelong in the first week of the finals, will certainly have a better side with affiliate Melbourne knocked out of the AFL finals on Saturday night in Perth by the West Coast Eagles. The Cats may recall Matthew McCarthy . VFL GRAND FINAL ENTRY PRICES
