On Monday 18 September the Geelong Football Club received
a petition signed by 130 adult members seeking a special general meeting.
The sole business to be dealt with at the special
general meeting shall be the reception of a report from the board
of directors on the clubs performance in the 2006 season and
plans for the 2007 season.
The meeting will be held in the Fred Flanagan room
in the Ford Stand at Skilled Stadium on Wednesday 11 October at 6pm.
The club encourages as many members as possible to
attend this meeting.
Meanwhile, the AFL has put media organisations,
including The Cattery, 'on notice', warning against any publication
of the three AFL players who twice tested positive to illicit drugs.
Like all in the media and most genuine
football fans, The Cattery is of course aware of who the players
are. It's of course debatable if it's in the public interest, but
then again, was publication of Joe Korp's diary in the public interest?
Regardless, it is a near certainty all three players will either be
one or more of delisted, traded, enter the national or pre-season
drafts over the next month or so.
The statement is below.
On 11 September 2006 the Honourable Justice Kellam
of the Supreme Court of Victoria made orders in the above proceedings
in the following terms:
1. Until further Order, the Court declares that
the identity of any AFL player who has tested positive or who is
deemed to have tested positive on the first or second occasion under
the AFL Illicit Drugs Policy is private information that is confidential
in nature.
2. The Defendants (Defendant in the
second proceeding), whether by their (its) servants, agents or howsoever
otherwise, be permanently restrained from publishing or otherwise
disseminating any material tending to identify any of the three
AFL players who are the subject of the Confidential Information
pleaded in paragraphs 13 (14) of the Statements of Claim.
3. The Defendants pay the Plaintiffs costs
of the proceeding, including reserved costs.
Media organisations throughout Australia are on
notice of the terms of the orders made by the Honourable Justice
Kellam, and the terms of the previous interlocutory orders made
by the Honourable Justice Hollingworth. The AFL will take all action
necessary to prevent the unlawful publication of information the
subject of the orders of the Supreme Court of Victoria.
