THREE GEELONG PLAYERS IN 2011 AFL
ALL AUSTRALIAN SIDE DOMINATED BY COLLINGWOOD; SIMPKIN WINS VFL BEST
AND FAIREST

have made the 2011 AFL All Australian side, down on last year's six
and the high of nine in 2007. After missing
last year Matthew Scarlett was named for his sixth All Aussie side,
joined by Corey Enright in his fourth in a row in the other back pocket.
The third player was first time and not undeserved James Kelly, named
on the bench but in less than two weeks now gets a chance to win his
third AFL Premiership. In other news around the club, Jonathan Simpkin
won the VFL club Best and Fairest award by just 4 votes from Andrew
McLean.

Missing
for the second year was Jimmy Bartel along with Joel Selwood, Paul Chapman

VFL CLUB BEST AND FAIREST PRESS RELEASE
Jonathan Simpkin has taken out the Cats VFL best &
fairest in a tight vote count. Simpkin polled 464 votes to narrowly
win the award from Andrew McLean (460) and Mark Corrigan (449).
Simpkin was recruited to the Geelong VFL side in 2008
after two years with the Sydney Swans. He has since gone on to play
59 VFL games with the Cats. Simpkin was named in the 2010 VFL Team
of the Year and represented Victoria against WA in 2010. He finished
third in the 2010 best & fairest and was taken by the club in
last years rookie draft.
Going into the final round McLean led by five votes.
Simpkin polled 32 in the final match of the year to McLeans
23 votes and Corrigan polled 18.
McLean and Simpkin were the only two players to play
every match in 2011. Corrigan missed one match in Round 16.
