CATS CLEAN SWEEP KANGAROOS AND BULLDOGS
INTO AFL NAB CUP SECOND ROUND AFL NAB CUP 2011 GEELONG CATS By Ben Jensen GEELONG has beaten the Western Bulldogs and North Melbourne Kangaroos to top Pool 5, the final of the group games in this season's AFL NAB Cup today at Skilled Stadium. First up Geelong kicked four goals to defeat North Melbourne by eighteen points. Rookie Ben Johnson booted one goal along with Jimmy Bartel, Mitch Duncan and Shannon Motlop. For the 'Roos Ben McKinley and Lachlan Hansen kicked their two goals. In the second game the Western Bulldogs ensured a sad trip back home on the train for the Kangaroos, smashing them to the tune of thirty-one points. In the final match the Cats survived an early scare in the second half against the Bulldogs but ultimately prevailed by twenty-one points. Steve Johnson booted three and Tom Hawkins two, the Cats snapping back after the Bulldogs jumped to a one goal lead early on. But that would be the Bulldogs' final score, the Cats kicking four unanswered goals to ensure they went through on top to face St Kilda next weekend. Unfortunately for the Cats James Podsiadly will be missing, he left the field with a broken hand after the first game and did not appear for the second.
