Sadly Tom Lonergan will not be part of Geelong's final game of the season, after losing a kidney following last Saturday's draw with Melbourne at Skilled Stadium. The following statement was released by the GFC this afternoon:

Tom Lonergan’s condition continues to improve. His kidney function has improved and he is conscious and eating. He no longer requires assisted ventilation.

Tom remains in the intensive care unit at Geelong Hospital. No timeframe has been placed on any move from ICU.

We appreciate that the media is keen to talk with Tom, however his recovery is our only concern at this point. The club will advise if or when the stage comes that Tom will be available to the media.

MATCH REPORT

GEELONG was easily beaten by a determined Hawthorn side at Skilled Stadium on Saturday, in front of a disappointed crowd of around 24,000 fans. The Cats lost by a whopping fifty-two points, managing only six goals while the Hawks kicked fifteen goals, including nine in the final quarter into the wind. To add injury to the insult, Geelong captain Steven King took tore his hamstring in the first quarter, missing the rest of the game and likely the next month at least.
