VFL GRAND FINAL 2006: GEELONG V SANDRINGHAM; MATCH
PREVIEW AND TEAM LIST By Ben Jensen GEELONG face dual reigning premiers Sandringham in a much anticipated showdown for the Victorian Football League's premiership. The Zebras field an even stronger lineup, with AFL affiliate Melbourne now out of the premiership race, while the Cats recalled big forward Matthew McCarthy. It will be full forward Kent Kingsley's last ever game in club colours, and probably one of centre half forward Nathan Ablett's last games in the VFL. Sandringham defeated Geelong by twenty-one points in the qualifying final and accounted for the Northern Bullants last week. Geelong made it through to the decider after defeating first North Ballarat and then Williamstown in the semi and preliminary finals. Due to the ground being found in poor condition today, the two TAC Cup games from Saturday have been moved to Trevor Barker Beach Oval, Sandringham. The VFL Reserves Grand Final, between Williamstown and Box Hill, remains at 11am on the Sunday. SEN 1116 will be broadcasting the game whilst ABC TV will be telecasting the game in Victoria. Geelong last won the Premiership in 2002, inspired by a talented mix of experience and youth. The Cats defeated Port Melbourne (then aligned with the Sydney Swans) in the Grand Final at then Optus Oval in front of over 10,000 fans. It was Geelong's first Premiership at any level since 1982.
