AFL ROUND 5 2007: GEELONG V KANGAROOS; FINAL TEAMS
AND MATCH PREVIEW PLUS TV
/ RADIO BROADCAST DETAILS By Ben Jensen THE CATS have dropped Josh Hunt and Shannon Byrnes, and Joel Selwood and Travis Varcoe. Brad Ottens and Kane Tenace were named as emergencies along with Byrnes. The Cats hope to rebound from the loss in Tasmania against Hawthorn when they play the Kangaroos this Sunday at home. Gary Ablett will remain in doubt and may miss, giving Byrnes a second chance. The decision to not bring back Ottens has astonished but not surprised most Geelong fans. Ottens and Mark Blake had a lot to do with the two wins against Carlton and Melbourne, whilst Steven King has been a shadow of his former self. Kangaroos ruckman Hamish McIntosh has been one of the most improved players in the league so far this season, and played a major hand in the Roos' first win over Brisbane last weekend. King and Blake will need to work in tandem to wear him down. Ottens may not do much better than King but he is certainly more mobile and useful around the ground, particularly up forward. King's resembled a lumbering oaf at times lately. The one positive is that in the VFL Geelong host Kangaroos affiliate North Ballarat in a curtain raiser to the AFL game at Skilled Stadium. So there's a chance there may still be a change on Sunday morning.

WHY WE'LL WIN (THE FANATIC'S VIEW) LAST WEEK was an aberation. So was round one of course. Rounds two and three proved what we can with our forwards in Cameron Mooney, the Ablett brothers, Tom 'Tomahawk' Hawkins and Matthew Stokes. The back six, although minus injured captain Tom Harley and the out of form Josh Hunt, has been performing well. The midfielders, led by Jimmy Bartel, Gary Ablett and Joel Corey have been matching up well against all opposition. IT'S OUR FIRST HOME GAME! Although we had a 'home' fixture against Carlton at Telstra Dome in round 2, we haven't had a real home game yet. The team really needs no other motivation.
WHY WE WON'T WIN (THE SKEPTIC'S VIEW) LAST WEEKEND showed where we were truly at. Hawthorn have won three out of four but should still be three or four years behind our development. Yet we lost.

ROUND 17 2006, MANUKA
OVAL (KANGAROOS' LAST EVER GAME IN CANBERRA) GEELONG'S season is now all but over, after being smashed by the Kangaroos in Canberra yesterday. Not only did the Cats lose but rival for eighth spot Fremantle defeated Carlton to put a two game buffer between the two clubs. Geelong also lost Gary Ablett (shoulder) and Cameron Ling (concussion) to injury. In addition to the Big Hairy Cat, Cameron Mooney, after being reported for the second time in two games, may have played his final game for the Geelong Football Club. Gary Ablett sustained a heavy blow to his right shoulder from Kangaroo Jess Sinclair in the first quarter and immediately left the field. He took no further part in the match. After undergoing an X-Ray this morning, Ablett has been cleared him of any serious damage but will miss between one and three matches due to an injured AC joint. The club referred to Ablett's injury as a ' grade one injury'. AFL umpire Darren Goldspink was reportedly tightlipped immediately after the incident.
