AFL ROUND 14 2007: ESSENDON V GEELONG;
ANDREW MACKIE'S 50TH; MATCH PREVIEW
PLUS TV / RADIO BROADCAST
DETAILS By Ben Jensen ESSENDON V GEELONG TOP OF THE LADDER Geelong face fifth placed hosts Essendon at Telstra Home this Friday night. Tom Hawkins and Kane Tenace have been recalled for the Cats while Essendon has swung the axe, omitting two despite three forced changes through suspension and injury. James Hird will play his 250th game and Andrew Mackie his 50th. For Geelong, Nathan Ablett and Max Rooke are both out injured, with an injured knee and hamstring respectively. Jimmy Bartel is doubtful but likely to play while Tom Harley is cleared to play but was fined $2,400 for colliding with umpire Ray Chamberlain. Essendon's Adam Ramanauskas makes his courageous comeback from a second fight against cancer. The Bombers will be without Captain Matthew Lloyd, suspended for charging Melbourne's Nathan Carroll in last Friday's last second win. Jason Winderlich pulled a hamstring at training, Brent 'Rosemary' Stanton is out with an ankle injury while two players now considered journeyman, Mark Bolton, Scott Camporeale were dropped.
ANDREW MACKIE will play his 50th game, presuming he can overcome any niggling injuries. Mackie is having easily his best season to date after debuting in 2004. Playing mostly as a floating forward, this season Mackie has played almost exclusively as a backman. Like most of his fellow defenders, Mackie has been very damaging to the opposition when taking possession in the back half of the ground, and has kicked seven goals in twelve games.

AFL ROUND 19, SKILLED STADIUM
GEELONG 6.3 12.5 16.6 20.10 (130) DEFEATED
Led by Gary Ablett, Cameron Mooney, Paul Chapman Matthew Stokes and Matthew Scarlett defeated Essendon by seven goals in front of a good crowd of 43,600. The morale boosting win wasn't too tidy but was after all played against a side regularly struggling to be competitive - besides the three figure loss against Collingwood, Geelong has been competitive in every game. Gary Ablett, fresh from clearing his name and earning the public praise of his father Gary Senior, was Geelong's best. He kicked four goals and gathered thirty-odd possessions, and spent a fair bit of time off the ground. Fellow small forward / midfielder Paul Chapman enjoyed his time in the midfield, playing well up the ground when required. He managed to kick a goal, and shook off the mini-form slump of a fortnight. In his third game Matthew Stokes had a night to remember, with three goals and a hand in others. Down back Matthew Scarlett, showing no signs of pining for teammate Tom Harley, put in a signature performance.
