AFL PREMIERSHIP SEASON 2008 ROUND 3; GEELONG V MELBOURNE;
MATCH PREVIEW PLUS TV /
RADIO BROADCAST DETAILS By Ben Jensen GEELONG play their first home game at Skilled Stadium this Sunday against wooden-spoon favourite Melbourne, a Fox Sports televised game. The unfurling of the Premiership Flag will take place around 1PM, the official match starting time being 1:10PM. The VFL side will also unveil their Flag before their match against Werribee, which will begin just before 9:30am. Shannon Byrnes was dropped for Max Rooke, Brent Prismall again missing selection. Former Cat Brent Moloney has seemingly missed another chance to have a crack at his old club, not making the final cut and like Prismall named as 'first emergency'. Melbourne dropped Isaac Weetra, Jace Bode and Simon Buckley, and brought in Chris Johnson, Jared Rivers and Austin Wonaeamirri, who will make his debut. The Cats start the shortest price in recent memory,
giving the phrase 'unbackable favourite' a whole new meaning. Online
betting outlets such as Sportsbet, Centrebet and Betfair are quoting
just about $1 - meaning you risk your hard earned for a payout of 1
or 2 cents. Still, as Robert Walls said last season of a Cats match
- if you put $100,000 on, you're a certainty to make $1,000. For the
record, Dial a bet, Sportingbet and RacingOdds all had the best odds
($1.03).
Be sure to make the most of this. Yes, kick the Demons when they're down. No, we haven't forgotten the abuse we (as a club and group of supporters) copped a few seasons ago, nor the vitriol directed at this website after we dared to suggest we had their measure, and that their then-newly elected president wasn't the most attractive looking blokes around. SUFFER DEMONS! And COME ON CATS! SET THE RECORD SCORE!

CATS OVERCOME DONS EMOTION FOR NINTH WIN ON THE TROT By Ben Jensen GEELONG easily accounted for Melbourne in front of a small crowd of 38,438 at the MCG today. Most of the action happened in the first half - Geelong earned a forty-six point half time lead, thanks partly to Tom Hawkins' four goals. GEELONG 5.8 (38) 11.8 (74) 14.10 (94) 15.19
(109) DEFEATED GOALS BEST Nathan Ablett was a late withdrawal, replaced by Joel Selwood just three minutes prior to the match beginning. Ablett injured his back during the warm-up, while Selwood, who was in the stands about to watch the game, did not appear on the sidelines until midway through the first quarter. Geelong led by twenty five points at quarter time but should have been in front by more, kicking just five goals from thirteen attempts, to Melbourne's two goals one behind. But the second quarter was a different story, the Cats kicking six goals straight, including three to Hawkins, snuffing out any chance Melbourne had of what could only have been a fairytale win with their current side. The second half was a bit of a yawn fest - the Cats increased their lead in the third quarter, kicking three goals two behinds to the Demons' one goal five behinds. But in the final term the Cats dominated early play but could kick just one goal from ten scoring attempts whilst the Demons kicked three goals straight. The final margin was fifty-two points. Geelong is now two wins from three matches and are full of confidence with the new, potent forward line. The round one loss to the Bulldogs seems to have been an aberration, however it should be remembered the Blues and Demons weren't much chop on the day. Be that as it may, the Cats are flying so jump on board and buy a membership! Geelong travel to Tasmania's Sunny Launceston to take on Hawthorn at Aurora Stadium next Sunday. Nathan Ablett may be available to play while senior players Steven King and 'Max' Rooke certainly will be available.
