AFL ROUND 5 2011; HAWTHORN V GEELONG; MATCH PREVIEW INCLUDING TEAM LISTS, TV DETAILS
Ben Jensen 24 April 2011

By Ben Jensen twitter.com/thecattery HAWTHORN HAWKS V GEELONG CATS FINAL TEAMS GEELONG play Hawthorn at the MCG on 'Easter/ANZAC Tuesday'; call it what you like, it's a day off and another excuse to head to the MCG to watch two of the better sides of the past four years go at it head to head. Geelong recalled Tom Hawkins and Mitch Duncan for omitted Josh Hunt and Allen Christensen, while Matthew Stokes only made the emergency list. As expected, Hawthorn ended up making no changes, the three provisionally brought in for their seven-man interchange all named as emergencies. MATCHDAY UPDATE: CAMERON MOONEY OUT, MATTHEW STOKES IN, DAN MENZEL THE SUB FOR THE CATS RESULT - CATS BEAT HAWKS AT MCG

Matthew Scarlett will play his 250th game, in his fourteenth season of AFL football. Scarlett debuted in the final round of the 1998 season, making an unassuming debut in the win over the Bombers. Since then he has become known as a premier full back in the competition, after first being named All Australian in 2003. Scarlett and former skipper Tom Harley shared their 100 game milestones in another win over Essendon in 2004, but thereafter Scarlett overtook Harley in terms of games played as the latter struggled with injury. Scarlett was All-Aussie again that season but didn't reappear until the Cats' breakthrough year of 2007. His 200 game milestone was against Richmond at the then-named Telstra Dome, another win - Scarlett has never played in a losing side in a milestone match. Good omens for Tuesday!

Hawthorn fan Sasha Lennon of the Footy Almanac reckons Geelong is NO CHANCE to play the Hawks when it counts this September, let alone win on Tuesday; think she's dreaming! Still this is what she had to say, I encourage a rubust debate over at thefootyalmanac.com.au.

CATS COME FROM BEHIND AND HOLD ON AGAINST HAWKS; TOUR DE FRANCE
Ben Jensen (From St Claude, Stage 7 Tour de France) 10 July 2010

GEELONG just held on against auld enemy Hawthorn at the MCG today, delighting this author and caravan who are awaiting to arrival of Cadel Evans and friends just outside St Claude, on Stage 7 of the Tour de France. From the reports we had texted in, the Cats struggled but just kept pace, and in the final quarter snatched the lead and led by 9 points with minutes to go. Hawthorn's dependable Brad Sewell gave us a scare as he reduced the margin to just three points but the Hawks' final shot of the game by Clinton Young only produced a behind, and the Cats hung on. Watch out for a Geelong jumper and Aussie/Scottish flags around 00:26 (Victorian time) tonight, and let us know if you see us. thecattery @ keldar.net (remove the spaces).
