AFL ROUND 6 2012; GEELONG V MELBOURNE; MATCH PREVIEW
Ben Jensen 3 May 2012

By Ben Jensen twitter.com/thecattery GEELONG CATS V MELBOURNE DEMONS JAMES KELLY returns from injury this Saturday along with the VFL side's 9 goal kicker Mitch Brown. Making way are the injured Matthew Stokes (ankle) and Taylor Hunt (general soreness). The Dees have swung the axe on Jack Watts and Joel Macdonald, for the returning James Frawley and Mitchell Clark. The Cats won by a lazy 186 points last time around, unfortunately precipitating the sacking of coach Dean Bailey a day or two later.

While the conditions at Simonds Stadium are not what they were a year ago; the lack of a grandstand at the River end causing terribly unpredictable winds, the Cats are still likely to absolutely thump the hapless Demons. Should there be decent rain the end result may well be eight or nine goals to the Cats and one to the Dees, but otherwise look for bags of four-five goals from in form Tom Hawkins, KP specialist James Podsiadly and expect Steve Johnson to fire up at last.

DEE-STROYED; CATS PUSH RECORD SCORE IN THRASHING OF DEMONS
Ben Jensen 30 July 2011

By Ben Jensen twitter.com/thecattery GEELONG CATS V MELBOURNE DEMONS GEELONG may have just missed beating their own record VFL-AFL score but in doing so comprehensively thrashed Melbourne, kicking 37 goals and winning by 186 points in the fourth highest score in AFL history. With two minutes to go the Cats needed just one goal to equal their own record score of 37.17 (239), but could not score again as the Demons belatedly kept the Cats at bay. Still their tally of 37 goals equalled their record for the best ever, and it was certainly the highest score ever at Skilled Stadium / Kardinia Park. Cameron Mooney enjoyed his first game in some time with five goals to half time, helped in no small part by Steve Johnson who spent most of the first half giving off goal assists before joining the fun himself, finishing with seven goals. Tom Hawkins was the next highest goal kicker with five, while Mitch Duncan, Matthew Stokes and Travis Varcoe all had three apiece.
