AFL ROUND 23 2012;
GEELONG V SYDNEY SWANS; MATCH PREVIEW By Ben Jensen twitter.com/thecattery GEELONG CATS V SYDNEY SWANS SYDNEY, the last side to beat Geelong at Simonds Stadium, will have Jude Bolton back for the round 23 clash this Saturday. Geelong regains skipper Joel Selwood, premier full-back Matthew Scarlett and Taylor Hunt from injury and recalls Nathan Vardy for his first game in some time. Travis Varcoe will miss after limping off just one quarter into his long-awaited comeback game last Sunday against the Bulldogs. Others to miss are Billie Smedts with a hand injury while Cam Guthrie and Josh Walker have been left out. Tom Hawkins will play his 100th game and Mitch Duncan his 50th. The VFL side play their qualifying final against Port Melbourne at the Boroughs' home ground on Sunday. There has been much conjecture about the impacts of a loss on the sixth-placed Cats, but for a win the equation is simply: the Cats will get a Victorian final. Win by an absolute mile and should West Coast cop an absolute belting and it is possible the Cats would finish fifth, but with a 11-ish% difference it is unlikely. Seventh and Eighth placed Fremantle and North Melbourne have home games against Melbourne and GWS respectively and are expected to significantly boost their percentages, so if the Cats lose they'll likely find themselves eighth and facing a trip to Subiaco to face the Eagles; or if the % gains aren't as great by either Freo or North, end up seventh and either an 'away' MCG final or another visit to Subi to face the Dockers.

AFL 2011, ROUND 13, FRIDAY 22 JUNE 2012 19:50 AEST, SCG 21 JUNE 2012 AFL ROUND 13 2012; SYDNEY V GEELONG; MATCH PREVIEW
By Ben Jensen twitter.com/thecattery GEELONG had a shocking opening quarter against the Sydney Swans at the SCG last night, trailing by six goals yet managed to be in front with minutes remaining before the Swans kicked the final goal of the match, eventually winning by six points. In all likelihood both sets of fans will walk away frustrated with the bizarre umpiring on the night, marked by a series of teacher-schoolboy confrontations between James Podsiadly and a Shane McInerney that didn't shed either in the best light. A seven goal to one opening quarter by the Swans threatened to break the back of the Cats but they rebounded, outscoring their opponents in each of the remaining quarters.
