AFL 2013 1ST PRELIMINARY FINAL;
HAWTHORN V GEELONG;
MATCH PREVIEW By Ben Jensen twitter.com/thecattery HAWTHORN HAWKS V GEELONG CATS CAN HAWTHORN finally beat the Kennett Curse? We will find out Friday night at the MCG in the first Preliminary Final. There has been two changes from either side, the Cats losing the suspended Paul Chapman and dropping Taylor Hunt, the Hawks recalling Lance Franklin from suspension and Cyril Rioli from injury. Josh Caddy returns right away from one week off with an ankle injury and Jordan Murdoch, who performed very well last time these sides met with three goals. Out for the Hawks are unlucky duo Matt Spangher and Jed Anderson. On Sunday the Cats play the Box Hill Hawks at Etihad Stadium in the VFL Grand Final, chasing back to back flags under coach Matthew Knights and skipper Troy Selwood. Geelong beat Box Hill back in round three by just five points at Simonds Stadium. In the Preliminary Final the Cats had a thumping win over Williamstown, Josh Walker and Shane Kersten starring up forward with five and four goals apiece. Box Hill defeated Werribee by 52 points in their preliminary final.

AFL 2013 ROUND 15 SATURDAY 6 JULY 2013 19:40 AEST; MCG
CATS OVERCOME HAWKS AND UMPIRING BLUNDERS
By Ben Jensen twitter.com/thecattery AFL 2013 ROUND 15; GEELONG CATS V HAWTHORN HAWKS GEELONG defeated Hawthorn by ten points in front of 85,197, their second win over the Hawks this season and eleventh in a row since the 2008 grand final. Cats coach Chris Scott would have been fuming for many reasons had they lost the match, in fact he was fuming anyway; his players missing so many shots at goal in the second half and with a few puzzling umpiring decisions. The standout was a supposed interchange infringement against Josh Hunt in the final quarter that gifted David Hale his second goal and brought the margin down to just 9 point, following a miraculous goal from Jack Gunston seconds earlier. After the match AFL spokesperson Patrick Keane confirmed the decision was wrong. Earlier in the day the VFL side defeated North Ballarat, Travis Varcoe making a successful comeback from injury. Tonight Jesse Stringer and Cyril Rioli started as substitutes. 6 JULY 2013 CATS OVERCOME HAWKS AND UMPIRING BLUNDERS 6 JULY 2013 AFL 2013 ROUND 15; GEELONG V HAWTHORN; MATCH PREVIEW
