BRISBANE LIONS
V GEELONG CATS
NATHAN VARDY is out of the side to play Brisbane at the Gabba tomorrow
evening, replaced by Dawson Simpson on Saturday morning. Also out is
Trent West, so it will be Simpson and the returning Mark Blicavs in
the ruck. Geelong's injury list is getting a bit of a worry with the
likes of Paul Chapman and Travis Varcoe still listed as indefinite and
big men Vardy and West missing with back complaints. Jared Rivers continues
to struggle with a knee injury while Josh Caddy is back fit, albeit
in the VFL.
The two Taylors, Harry and Hunt, are also back along
with Steven Motlop. Missing along with Vardy and West are Mitchell Brown,
Billie Smedts and Jackson Thurlow. The Lions have made three changes,
bringing back former Cat Brent Moloney, Daniel Merrett and Jonathan
Brown who is back from suspension.

GEELONG
easily accounted for Brisbane
in a very wet game against Brisbane at the Gabba tonight.
Geelong had seven goals at half time, four of them to Coleman Medal
leader Tom Hawkins, while the Lions had not one goal yet. Dozens of
millimetres of rain fell on Brisbane today and this evening, the Gabba
draining pretty well under the circumstances but still resembles more
of a shallow pool than a football field tonight. Hawkins finished with
6 goals on a night that on paper didn't suit him at all. Paul Chapman,
like Steve Johnson struggling with form of late, had two goals while
Johnson himself really struggled. Skipper Joel Selwood is certain to
come under scrutiny for an off the ball incident with Lion Andrew Raines
in which Selwood was floored for over a minute, but it was the earlier
contact from Selwood to Raines that may earn Selwood a Match Review
Panel rating. In the VFL on Friday night Mitch
Brown booted 9 goals as the Cats defeated Bendigo Gold by 86 points.
