AFL 2016 SECOND
QUALIFYING FINAL: GEELONG CATS V HAWTHORN HAWKS; MATCH PREVIEW &
TEAMS AFL 2016 SECOND QUALIFYING FINAL: GEELONG CATS V HAWTHORN HAWKS GEELONG has resisted the temptation to make too many changes to its side to take on Hawthorn this Friday night for a Preliminary Final berth. Lachie Henderson, Scott Selwood and Nakia Cockatoo were are potential recalls. But only Selwood came in, at the expense of the unlucky Jew Bews. Cockatoo and Shane Kersten are named as emergencies along with Bews while Henderson sits out, presumably a chance to come in the next match the Cats play. Hawthorn has recalled two Bens- Stratton and McEvoy, dropping Billy Hartung and Marc Pittonet. The winner is through to a home (MCG) Preliminary Final while the loser will be off to an elimination final plus at best a Sydney based prelim final. The Cats head in slight favourites against their modern-day arch nemesis, with good form coming into the match plus having the Hawks' number earlier this year. But the week off may have given the Hawks time to regroup; but vice versa has given extra time for Menzel, Caddy and Selwood to recover from niggles, though it wasn't enough for Henderson.
UMPIRES TBA TIP: Cats by 23 points

ON EASTER MONDAY FOR THE FIRST TIME since the 2014 home and away season, Geelong defeated Hawthorn today by thirty points, a final score that somewhat masks what a tight game it was. The Cats led by the same margin at half time but a five goal to nil third quarter by the Hawks saw them take the lead. Geelong steadied though, dominating the last quarter to take the win.
