AFL 2016 ROUND 9: COLLINGWOOD MAGPIES
V GEELONG CATS; MATCH PREVIEW & TEAMS AFL ROUND 9 2016: COLLINGWOOD MAGPIES V GEELONG CATS GEORGE HORLIN-SMITH is back for his first game of the season, in place of Tom Ruggles who has been omitted. Collingwood has made just the one change with Premiership backman Ben Reid back replacing another Ben, injured Ben Sinclair; Magpie Steele Sidebottom is due to play his 150th match. While Ruggles lost out Jed Bews retains his spot after missing out to Ruggles over the first month or so of the season. Last time these two sides met in a premiership season match in round 22 last year the Magpies gave the Cats a hiding, snuffing out their already slim mathematical finals hopes. You'd not expect that to happen this weekend then again last season was also a shock, so the Cats will be wary and not taking the struggling Nathan Buckley-led side lightly.
UMPIRES FIELD: TBC EMERGENCY: TBC TIP: Cats by 31 points MATCH PREVIEW by Willem van Denderen Geelong proved they are the real deal in defeating considerable opposition in Adelaide last week, and will be looking to hang onto second spot with a win against Collingwood. The Cats have won both times they have played at the MCG this year, and this will be the last time they do so until round 21. A win could see the Cats finish the week on top of the ladder, should North Melbourne lose against an in-form Carlton. Whilst this is unlikely Geelong should hold up their end of the bargain and be far too good for a Collingwood side which has endured an eventful first two months of 2016. The Magpies have been erratic this year, losing winnable games to St Kilda, Melbourne and Carlton. Pressure is also mounting on Nathan Buckley, and injuries and poor form have seen some players completely lose their way. Despite this they have mustered three wins, and enter round nine just a game outside the eight. Last week they held Brisbane scoreless for a quarter, and kicked an impressive 20 goals. So for all the negativity surrounding the Pies they are not to be underestimated, and an upset win could put them right back into the top eight mix. READ WILLEM'S FULL MATCH PREVIEW Loading...

AFL 2015 ROUND 22 GEELONG CATS V COLLINGWOOD MAGPIES FRIDAY 28 AUGUST 2015 MCG 30 AUGUST 2015 CATS' FINALS HOPES SNUFFED OUT BY INSIPID PERFORMANCE AGAINST MAGPIES; MENZEL MAKES PERFECT COMEBACK 27 AUGUST 2015 AFL 2015 ROUND 22: GEELONG CATS V COLLINGWOOD MAGPIES; MATCH PREVIEW CATS' FINALS HOPES SNUFFED OUT BY
INSIPID PERFORMANCE AGAINST MAGPIES; MENZEL MAKES PERFECT COMEBACK AFL ROUND 22 2015: GEELONG CATS V COLLINGWOOD MAGPIES DANIEL MENZEL made a perfect comeback after four years out of the game, kicking four goals and taking a good hanger of a mark. Unfortunately that was where the positives ended for the Cats, who let slip seven Magpie goals in the first quarter, the only goal coming courtesy of Menzel, setting the tone for the evening. The Cats only out-scored the Magpies in the third quarter, in the end being defeated by 48 points. Thus ending any hope of making the 2015 AFL final series, the first time the Cats will not play in the finals since the 2006 season. Next Saturday will be the last game with the Cats for at least a couple players but nobody outside the club is yet sure who, at least some of veterans Steve Johnson, James Kelly, Jimmy Bartel, Matthew Stokes won't go around next year. The match will be against Adelaide who made certain of their finals appearance with a comprehensive win over West Coast today. COLLINGWOOD:
