AFL 2017 ROUND 10:
GEELONG CATS V PORT ADELAIDE POWER; MATCH PREVIEW
& TEAMS AFL 2017 ROUND 10: GEELONG CATS V PORT ADELAIDE POWER JORDAN CUNICO of Gippsland has been named for the Cats as they take on Port Adelaide at Simonds Stadium tomorrow night. Cunico will make his AFL debut, while the Cats also recalled Cameron Guthrie and Darcy Lang. Missing will be the injured Nakia Cockatoo who did a hamstring in Friday night's win over the Bulldogs, managed Tom Lonergan, while Mark O'Connor is omitted and named an emergency. Port Adelaide who had the bye last week after playing the Gold Coast in China have made just one change, recalling Aaron Young at the expense of Chad Wingard (calf) who we didn't realise was still playing AFL. Midfielder Cunico, 21, was drafted by the Cats in 2014 and has had a couple rough years battling various injuries- knee complaint in 2015 and 2016. Named in the best in the last three VFL games he's forced the selectors' hand, earning his AFL debut. The match kicks off at 7:20PM and will be preceeded by a lap of honour for most of the 2007 Premiership side, who memorably absolutely belted Port Adelaide at the MCG by a record score that unsurprisingly still stands. We expect the crowd to take a dive from the ~30,000 who attended last Friday night due to the scheduling which pretty much defies all logic. With the army of executives at the AFL (which likely out-numbers MPs in Australia) you'd think somebody would put their hand up and say "umm boss I don't think it's a good idea to schedule another Thursday night down at Geelong, it was the mother of all balls ups last time" - evidently not. The Cats' VFL side doesn't play again until 4 June as the VFL has a split round, while the undefeated Geelong Women's side plays Cranbourne Eagles at the Frenken Homes Oval. Teams for this match will be announced on Thursday evening.
UMPIRES TBA TIP: Cats by 37 points
