2017 ROUND 14: GEELONG
CATS V FREMANTLE DOCKERS
TOM HAWKINS has been recalled
as expected to the side to host Fremantle on Sunday at Simonds Stadium
in a 1PM fixture. The final changes have been named as Hawkins, Mark
Blicavs, Jordan Cunico and George Horlin-Smith in fo rinjured duo Nakia
Cockatoo (hamstring), Lachie Henderson (groin) and the omitted ruckman
Zac Smith and midfielder/utility Jordan Murdoch. That left fellow hamstrung
Scott Selwood who sat out the latter stages of last Thursday's loss
to West Coast with the
same injury as Cockatoo named to play.
Fremantle
have brought in serial pest Hayden Ballantyne who to be honest we assumed
was delisted after 2015, Nick Suban among others, while Shane Kersten
will play his 50th game. The Dockers have lost two players to injury
and a third has been omitted. Wylie Buzza was named an emergency but
not this week (though he was later added to the squad of 25 after
Jordan Cunico was replaced by Jordan Murdoch ). The VFL side
plays on Sunday a way to North Ballarat while the VFL Women's side plays
at home Sunday morning, hosting Melbourne Uni.

GEELONG
was tested at times but defeated West Coast comfortably after a stunning
final quarter, winning by 44 points. Trailing at the first break the
Cats launched a blitz against the Eagles, outscoring them seven goals
to one for the quarter to take a 35 point lead into the main break.
The lead stretched to 51 points early in the second half and a serious
belting looked on the cards, but the Eagles had other ideas, booting
five unanswered goals to slash the lead to just three kicks. A late
steadier by Josh Caddy got the match back under control, the Cats leading
by 18 points at three-quarter time. The first four goals of the final
term put the result beyond any doubt, the Eagles' three goals not enough
to make the score more respectable.
