AFL 2017 ROUND 17:
GEELONG CATS V HAWTHORN HAWKS; MATCH PREVIEW & TEAMS

AFL
2017 ROUND 17:
GEELONG CATS V HAWTHORN HAWKS
GEELONG has to contend with
the three hundredth game AND now retirement announcement of Hawthorn
stalwart and former Geelong Falcon Luke Hodge this Saturday. It looks
like the Hawks will miss the finals but nothing is certain this season,
despite losing the first few games they have strung together a few wins
and sit in thirteenth position, like the Cats they drew with GWS on
the weekend. Recalled for the Cats is first-choice players Dan Menzel
and Scott Selwood, making way is Wylie Buzza and Zach Guthrie who racked
up two games each. Zac Smith plays his hundredth game for the Cats.
The Hawks are unchanged.
On the injury front
the good news is Menzel and Scott Selwood return, but Nakia Cockatoo
remains on the sidelines along with Jordan Cunico
and George Horlin-Smith.
Tom Stewart's fractured eye socket has been upgraded, now rated a 2
week injury, whereas last week it was 4-6 weeks- almost sounds too good
to be true. Regarding the round 23 fixture against GWS, the Cats have
backtracked somewhat, now saying that the club's commercial arm always
wanted a Saturday fixture and it was the coaching staff who wanted a
Monday game. Channel Seven's disinterest would have tipped the AFL's
hand anyway so it is glad to see sanity has prevailed.
