CATS HAVE DOG OF A GAME

ABOUT the only positive to come from Sunday's terrible loss to the Bulldogs was the emergence of rookie Brent 'Tweak' Moloney (right). The Western Bulldogs, coming into the match in 16th position with just one win from their first fifteen games, belted the Cats and lead by a tad under six goals at half time and ten goals at three quarter time. In junk time the Cats managed to hold the Dogs to just the one behind and score six goals for the term, but it was never going to be good enough.

The day started badly for the Cats, and even the VFL side went down to Bulldogs' affiliate Werribee. Mark Woolnough broke through the banner before the AFL match, but it all went downhill from there. Although forwards Kent Kingsley, Ben Graham and Aaron Lord drew Bronx cheers late in the game, it was the inaccurate kicking and poor accountability of the midfielders that lost the match. The backline was not much good either, with Brenton Sanderson stretched on Bulldog leading goalkicker Nathan Brown.

Rejuvenated Bulldogs Nathan Eagleton kept Gary Ablett relatively quiet early in the game before he was KO'd by David 'Bomba' Wojinski late in the second term. But Eagleton later returned to the field and slotted through a goal and saluted the cheer squad at the Barwon River end.

Next week the Cats attempt to defeat the Kangaroos in Canberra while the VFL team takes on ladder leaders Box Hill at the City Oval. Both games are on Saturday afternoon.
