POOR START COSTS CATS GEELONG went down to the Fremantle Dockers at Subiaco this ANZAC day afternoon. After conceding seven goals, including the first four, in the opening term, the Cats were playing catch-up football all day. They got to within two points after booting the first four goals of the final term, but that's as far as they got. JOSH HUNT and PAUL CHAMBERS were replaced by Brent Moloney and David Johnson before the opening bounce. Ben Graham was apparently injured and after making little impact in the first half, wasn't cited in the second. Paul Chapman, Peter Riccardi, Brent Moloney battled brilliantly in vain in the final term. Darren Milburn was consistent all match. Goal of the day resulted from a brilliant combination between Kane Tenace and Brent Moloney. A negative was Cameron Mooney's twin 50m penalties, both of which resulted in goals. As predicted, Des Headland, Paul Hasleby, Jeff Farmer and Paul Medhurst were brilliant for Fremantle. Relative unknown Byron Schammer, with three goals and twenty-five possessions, was another match winner. Next week Geelong face the Adelaide Crows, in the first match at Skilled Stadium for the year (Match Preview). There's no love lost between Cat fans and Adelaide and ex-Geelong coach Gary Ayres; indeed Ayres received a suspended sentence (later imposed after he re-offended) after verbally abuse and sign language handed out to Geelong fans in 2002. The Crows thrashed the pants off the Tigers last Friday night, removing some of the knives from Ayres' back (and promptly driving them back into Tigers' coach Danny Frawley's). Both sides come into the match at 1-4, and desperately need another win to hold hopes of getting something out of the season.
