NO STRUCTURAL DAMAGE FOR GEELONG FORWARD STEVE JOHNSON; WAITING GAME BEGINS
Ben Jensen 25 September 2011

AFL GRAND FINAL GEELONG CATS COLLINGWOOD MAGPIES GEELONG'S STEVE JOHNSON faces an agonising few days waiting to see how his knee responds to treatment including use of a hyperbaric chamber, the club confirmed earlier this evening. Johnson twisted his knee in the third quarter in Saturday's thumping win over West Coast, and is more likely than not to miss the Grand Final with Collingwood as a result.

The good news is there's nothing 'structural' wrong, he will certainly be right to go next season, it is just a matter of how the injury responds to the treatment, in particular when the swelling goes down and whether he can put weight on it. Johnson himself 'tweeted' his 12,000-odd followers an hour or so ago that although he isn't going to give day by day updates, he is doing all he can to play (as you'd expect).

Meanwhile Geelong fans are either elated or shattered after checking their credit card statements online; the lucky few getting confirmation they'll be there to hopefully see a third Premiership in five years, the rest resigned to watching it on TV. Fortunately for The Cattery we've managed to secure a seat in the ballot. If you missed out you may still be able to purchase a standing room ticket tomorrow from 12noon AEST.
