PERFECT START FOR CATS, DANGERFIELD
ON FIRE AFL ROUND 1 2017, FREMANTLE DOCKERS V GEELONG CATS GEELONG shrugged aside Fremantle on their home turf this afternoon/evening, beating the Dockers by 42 points at Domain Stadium in front of just under 35,000 fans. The match started at a bloody awful time for east-coast fans, 4:40PM local time which was 7:40PM Geelong time- the match finishing after 10PM. Before the first bounce Zac Smith was a late change, left out for team balance and replaced by Jackson Thurlow who many expected to play in the first place. It was not a bad move, while the Dockers do boast giant Aaron Sandilands they have an awful lot of smaller players to contend with. Rhys Stanley performed well enough in the ruck, supported by Mark Blicavs. The Cats dominated from start to finish, giving the Dockers a pretty ordinary start to the season. Four Cats booted three goals each (Steve Motlop, Tom Hawkins, Patrick Dangerfield and Lincoln McCarthy) while the Dockers did not have one multiple-goalkicker. It was an all round strong performance though you really have to worry about the opposition, who seem to have brought season 2016's form in with them. Next week the Cats play the Kangaroos on the Sunday afternoon early game (1PM) at Etihad Stadium, a designated home game. GEELONG:
