HINKLEY QUITS GEELONG FOR GOLD COAST
Ben Jensen in Edinburgh 29 September 2009

By Ben Jensen GEELONG assistant coach Ken Hinkley has quit the club in favour of the new Gold Coast franchise. Hinkley, who was a Captain of Geelong and played in two Grand Finals, was widely tipped for the Richmond job, but lost out to Hawthorn assistant Damien Hardwick.

Hinkley released a brief statement. ``In the current system a club gets about two or three young players a year to work with, so it's a coach's dream to be able to work with such a large group and hopefully help them develop into a great AFL team and club,'' he said.

``Gold Coast is an opportunity which doesn't come along very often and to help build a competitive team and a culture of success is something I cant wait to get involved in.''
