Last night's training session was the first football engagement for Geelong players since last weekend and coach Mark Thompson said his troops, who usually have day-to-day football commitments, had made the most of their time off.

``The players had from the game on Saturday to Thursday off and hopefully they enjoyed themselves,'' Thompson said.

``We gave them a licence to do whatever they wanted to do, spend time in Queensland like some of them did.''

The Cats were only put through a light training run last night and will again have the weekend off due to the split round.

Thompson said he thought it was important to break up the season in such a way, so as to avoid any end-of-season burnout.

``It's a long year and just the fact they don't have to come to training or watch videos is a huge relief to the players,'' he said of the week off.

Peter Street will be the only player from the Geelong side which defeated Sydney who will line up in the VFL against Port Melbourne tomorrow at Skilled Stadium.

Street has been named in the ruck, while Thompson opted against playing other players who didn't get much ground time in Sydney.

``I don't think it means that much,'' Thompson said.

``We may play Street, the rest will just have a week off. (Charlie) Gardiner didn't play the whole game, Brad Sholl didn't play all game but they've been training and they haven't missed many, so we thought there was no point bringing them back.''

MEANWHILE Sydney captain Paul Kelly was an interesting inclusion in the Port Melbourne side.

It had been rumoured Tony Lockett would be given a run in the VFL, but the rugged forward was left out of the side to take on the Cats.
