It showed once again what a great club Geelong is with a proud past and a very promising future.

And the present, with the club six and six, is reasonable enough, too.

It was a privilege to share the stage with the likes of Ian and Bruce Nankervis, Peter Walker, Fred Flanagan, all the members of the Hall of Fame who could make it along for the night.

I was particularly taken by Geoff Williams' story of his preparation for the 1952 Grand Final.

He was working in a bank and had to be behind the counter on Saturday morning.

So he set off to work, going past the MCG on the train as he did.

Because he was playing in the Grand Final, the bank let him leave work early that day at 11am instead of midday!

On his way home to have his lunch, he again went past the MCG and saw all the people queuing up to get in.

Eventually he arrived at the ground, again by train, to help Geelong win its second premiership in a row.

Geoff played in 121 games for Geelong and kicked one goal. He loved telling us that story, too.

Another bloke who kicked just one goal in a long and successful career was Peter Walker. He was ready to tell the story of that moment, too. I think they were all like that goal Billy Brownless kicked after the siren in 1994.

The distance from the mark to the goalpost just gets longer as the years pass, the breeze into which they are kicking becomes a gale and the ball just gets wetter and heavier.

I am sure Ricco's goal against Carlton is going to get the same treatment as the years pass.

One of the reasons you play football is so that you can sit around and talk about it afterwards with your mates.

The last two wins have created a common bond for the current team.

Common bonds lead to common belief. That was something we showed against Sydney.

Even when the Swans kicked those two goals in the final quarter, we still believed we could win and more importantly, we all worked together to do just that.

The level of emotion after the game was something you don't see very often.

But that's all history now. Today we take on Richmond at the MCG. It's going to be a tough game and every one of our players needs to be focused and hard at it.
