MARK Thompson has moved to ease the pressure of four straight losses on his Cats by allowing them to let their hair down in Melbourne last night.

The Geelong coach broke with tradition by sending his charges out on the town after a light training run at Albert Park.

The team stayed overnight in Melbourne, with some players going to the movies and others to comedy shows.

``We thought we'd come up here and enjoy Melbourne and give the boys a bit of an experience. It's just something different to break it all up,'' Thompson said.

``There is not many places to train in Geelong. We've got our own elite ground and apart from that there's nowhere else.

``The boys will go out tonight, hopefully not to nightclubs but some cultural things and go for a coffee somewhere.

``They've all planned things, they'll go and see some things they can't see in Geelong.''

The Cats hope the bonding session will be just the tonic to help upset sixth placed Melbourne at the Cattery on Saturday.

Glenn Kilpatrick trained strongly last night and is a chance of slotting straight back into the seniors after overcoming a hamstring strain.

He and veteran defender Tim McGrath are in contention after last week's young side let a seven-goal lead slip against the Bulldogs in the second term.

That second term was a feature of the post match review.

``Rohan Smith kicked three goals from full forward on Matthew Scarlett and that brought them back into the game,'' Thompson said of what went wrong last Saturday.

``The intensity lifted in the Bulldogs' better players and that was basically it.''

Thompson said he would persevere with playing out-of-form skipper Ben Graham in the forward line and did not rule out throwing last week's surprise packet Matthew Scarlett into attack again.

``Last time he (Graham) kicked a few goals against Melbourne and took some nice marks. If he doesn't go well, we'll then put him down back,'' Thompson said.

``Scarlett is such a good mark, a good competitor, and if we have Ben down back with Tom Harley, or if someone else comes into the side, then if Matty can go there and kick goals then we'll keep doing it.

``Tim McGrath is going well and I can picture him coming back into the side pretty soon.

``He played the first couple, then got dropped and has taken it like a real man. Everyone knows he's got real character and he'll force his way back in real soon.''

The Cats will have a weights session at the Victorian Institute of Sport this morning before returning to Geelong.
