The Demons have not beaten Geelong at home since their grand final year in 1988, and are using the challenge as inspiration for this weekend's round 10 clash.

Melbourne forward Brad Green said it was just one of several motivating factors for the club.

``We're sitting all right on the ladder,'' he said.

``But there's still a lot of improvement to be made. Hopefully that will come in the next month, starting on Saturday against Geelong.''

After a solid start to the season, the Demons have only just scraped through to win two of its past three games. In round seven the club defeated St Kilda by three points, went down to Fremantle by five points in round eight, and last week got over the top of the Kangaroos by four points.

``The last three weeks could have gone either way,'' Green said.

``If we'd had three defeats things might be looking grim for us. The challenge for us is to lift another level and get back to winning games and winning well.''

Green plays his 50th senior match on Saturday. He said while it was nice to reach the milestone, it said it indicated a need for him to be a consistent performer for the Demons.

``My form has been down a bit the last few weeks and I've been trying to get back from that.

``My main aim now is to play a bit more consistently.''

The 21-year old said he had been able to learn from experienced campaigners Clint Bizzell, Peter Vardy and Craig Ellis who all joined the Demons over summer.

``We made a pact that we wanted to be a harder and tougher team,'' he said.

``That new attitude and a couple of new players really helped us turn our form around from last year.

Bizzell is a doubtful starter for his first clash against his former club, but could still play a vital role. Green said Bizzell, who played six seasons with the Cats before moving to Melbourne this year, had been inside the coach's box throughout the week offering his knowledge of Geelong.
