GEELONG'S Luke Powell and Andrew Carrazzo were yesterday both selected in the Victorian Football League state representative squad for the upcoming match against South Australia.

Cats' VFL coach Ron Watt praised the pair's selection.

``It's certainly a feather in their caps to be chosen in the squad,'' Watt said last night.

``They've both done a good job.

``I guess with us sitting at second on the ladder I thought we'd at least get a couple of young players in.''

Watt said it would have been 21-year-old Powell's versatility that caught the eye of selectors for the 39-member squad.

Watt said 18-year-old Carrazzo would have been picked following his consistent performance in the Cats midfield this season.

Former Geelong champion Gary Ablett's nephew Ryan, son of former Hawthorn star Geoff, also earned selection in the squad after his recent standout performances in the Port Melbourne forward line.

A final team will be chosen early next week to represent Victoria in the clash with the SANFL on Saturday, June 15 at Adelaide Oval.
