CATS SLUMP TO THIRD
LOSS IN A ROW, JAMES KELLY HAS A HAPPY 300TH GAME

AFL
2017 ROUND 8: ESSENDON BOMBERS
V GEELONG
CATS
GEELONG
were well beaten for the third game in a row, this time by Essendon
in James Kelly's 300th match in the still-unfamiliar Bombers colours.
The Bombers led all game increasing their lead by a goal each quarter;
they led by just under five goals at quarter time, just under six at
half time and just under seven at three quarter time. The Cats kicked
the first three goals of the final quarter and for a while looked like
they may do what they did against the Kangaroos earlier in the season
but a timely long goal from Joe Daniher put paid to that idea. The Bombers
only managed three goals to the Cats' six in the final term but it was
enough for a 17 point win. If the Cats had of managed to run over the
Bombers it would have been something of an injustice considering how
far behind and outclassed they'd been all night. This leaves the Cats
five wins and three losses, the losses coming the last three weeks.
Next Friday the Cats host the reighning premiers Western Bulldogs in
the opening match at Simonds Stadium after 18 months of construction
work, and we expect to go in north of $2. Elsewhere today the VFL side
lost to Essendon bat Windy Hill by 61 points while the VFLW side beat
Seaford at Ocean Grove by 47 points.
