CATS WIN BATTLE OVER BULLDOGS AFL ROUND 16 2015: GEELONG CATS V WESTERN BULLDOGS ON A DAY that started off freezing cold but if you were in the sun was a great day, the Cats really struggled to defeat the Bulldogs on Saturday but led from start to finish. It was not the most spectacular display of the sport at times but a win's a win. Mitch Duncan played a solid game after missing two months with a broken foot, while the midfield had to cope without suspended skipper Joel Selwood. The 25,000 who turned up witnessed a fine game by Josh Caddy and Josh Hawkins & Steve Motlop snag three goals apiece. Motlop got better as the day went on and pretty much won the game off his own boot in the final term. The Cats led by two straight goals at three quarter time after a four goal third quarter, but the Bulldogs wouldn't let go, out-scoring the Cats in the final quarter but Motlop's third goal proved crucial giving the Cats a 13 point buffer at the time. A goal by Tory Dickson gave the home fans a fright but the Cats hung on for a scoreless final six minutes. Next Saturday same time it's the Cats v the Giants, Greater Western Sydney ranked four spots and two wins ahead of Geelong on the ladder but have only won two of their last five, with the Cats having won three of five. Dan Menzel is a chance to come back for his first game since the qualifying final win of 2011 on the way to the Premiership while skipper Selwood is a certainty to come back serving his one week suspension.
